Family

Director, Anna Christopher's, father gets a costume adjustment.

Each team member was determined to make the principal photography of QUEEN OF CACTUS COVE an enjoyable experience for the many volunteers and professionals who so kindly dedicated their time to helping make our vision a reality. Production became more than just a thesis film set; it became a family reunion… and a reminder of just how crucial that family support can be.

DP, Dominique Martinez's, husband operates the camera.

Alex and Sue Christopher, Anna’s parents, were omni-present during the shoot, filling in as drivers, art crew personnel, P.A.’s, a handyman, a chess consultant, and even a still photographer!  Their energy was contagious and they worked selflessly to help make the shoot a success.  Vallo Lleo de la Fe, Dominique’s husband and a cinematographer himself, filled in at the last minute when their gaffer had to drop out, providing priceless support to Dominique through the demanding schedule.  Deborah Helfrich, Brenda’s sister, flew in from Canada to help Rob Weiermair, Brenda’s husband, with the outstanding food services that kept everyone well fed and happy.  Rob also served as a chess consultant, and provided immeasurable support to Brenda, who was 8-months pregnant with their first child, Alexander, who was present throughout the entire process and who is a testament to toughness for thriving in such a high stress environment!  Even Alia Shawkat got in on the fun, having her parents, Dina Burke and Tony Shawkat, on set with their upbeat, positive attitudes, easily becoming a part of the extended family.

The Art Team

When the team thinks back to the production experience, there’s no doubt that it was challenging and caused many a sleepless night.  However, the overwhelming feeling is one of camaraderie, with friendships forged between actors and crew.  As the bottles of champagne were popped after the Martini Shot on the last day, cast and crew alike were hesitant to go home, hugging and laughing and reveling in that warm glow of a special experience with good friends and family.
